QotD: Many Happy Returns
What are you going to do with your tax return?
Submitted by KB.
What a timely question this is. You see, my return came in weeks ago, but I knew that despite my itching to put it immediately towards my student loan debt, that there were other plans for it. So it has been sitting in my account for a bit now. However, that is coming to an end here shortly.
You see, I have news. Some of you may know that last week I took some vacation time to go visit and celebrate Easter with the Stone's down in New Mexico (which was an awesome visit full of tons of great stuff). Well, a few days before I left I was contacted by some folks in Austin, TX who were interested in having me out to Austin for a job interview. So we adjusted my flight plans, and routed me down to Austin for a few days last week.
Well, good things are happening :) On Friday the company called me with an exciting job offer. I think I talked to about 13 people while I was in their offices and I totally fell in love with the company and the team. It's an environment that I'm totally excited to be working in. It's work that I truly think I'm going to do well at and enjoy doing daily. It's a company that does meaningful work that I am excited and proud to be working for.
So, I told them I needed the weekend to think and pray on it. So the formal acceptance of the offer won't be until tomorrow (then again, knowing some of these guys, they may be reading this already). But I plan to accept their offer. The plan is to leave Boston around May 3rd, and to start work in Austin May 28th.
Yesterday I bought moving boxes and started packing. Tomorrow I'm getting a PO Box down in Austin to ease the transition as I'll be in temporary housing situations staying with the family of my best friend for awhile. Tomorrow I'll also talk to moving companies and get that all worked out. And I'll be giving my notice at my current job.
So, yeah, my tax return money will cover having professional movers come in and move my stuff down to storage in the Austin area, and it will cover my road trip down there. I have a little time, and I feel like I need a little time to really do this transition well, so it will be a lengthy trip. Lydia will do the drive with me and it will include stops in Chicago to see my family and her sister, Indiana to see her in-laws, a few stops with friends, and New Mexico to see her parents who are kinda like godparents to me.
All that said... exciting stuff is in the works. And I can't think of a better thing to use my tax return on.
There is a ton more to the story. I could go on at great length at just
the way God has totally taken care of each and every detail of this
entire situation. He's opened every door and prepared ever logistic
moment. It's been an amazing blessing and truly a joy. It's a very
exciting season of my life!
